ADELE

Adele is an AmSAT-certified teacher of the Alexander Technique; she received her 1600-hour training at Riverside Initiative for the Alexander Technique (RIAT) in New York City under the direction of Nanette Walsh. Adele is currently a pre-doctoral lecturer and MFA candidate in dance at the University of Washington and maintains a private Alexander Technique teaching practice in the Ravenna district of Seattle.

As a dancer, Adele has enjoyed a long performing and teaching career in NYC and abroad; she most recently worked with choreographer Annie-B Parson and Grammy award-winning rock musician St. Vincent, and as a member of the Liz Gerring Dance Company (2007-2015) was featured in Glacier, named #4 on The New York Times' "Best Dance of 2013" and nominated for a Bessie Award. She has taught dance throughout Europe and East Asia; at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts and in public schools in the Bronx; at Jacob's Pillow in Beckett, MA; Bryn Mawr College; and in Washington State at Whitman College and Western Washington University. She holds a BA in Writing from the New School and has written about dance for The Village Voice.

After receiving her Alexander certification in 2015, Adele continued to teach at RIAT as a faculty member and anatomy teacher. She also taught group Alexander classes to dancers at Movement Research, actors at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, and physical therapists at Shift Integrative Medicine. She maintained a private teaching practice in Manhattan and continued her professional education by studying Embodied Anatomy & Kinesiology and developmental movement with Amy Matthews and Sarah Barnaby at the Breathing Project.

Now in Seattle, Adele is continuing to develop and synthesize her interests in the Alexander Technique, movement and anatomy. She is passionate about the thinking, moving body and seeks to help her students find freedom and balance in every aspect of their lives.
